    God's Holy Temple

    Category: Faith

Paul urges us…to not be slaves to sin.
To be more than flesh and blood…and goes so far as to suggest we are meant to be a holy temple.

This is the kind of pauline language that tends to confuse people…

All of us know…that what we see, feel, and go through (with these bodies of ours)…doesn’t seem to that we are God’s holy temple.

My mother often made the point of saying…it is not what a person looks like…or how much money they have that is important…what is important is what they are like inside….
For what is inside you tells everyone who you are.

Paul would have agreed with mom.

Paul realized what each of us is searching for is to be free of sin.
We all know what this is like…

To be free of selfishness, self-indulgence and disharmony our surroundings…

At Galatians 5…he repeats Jesus’ summary of the law…that you shall…
    ‘love your neighbor as yourself’
Live by the spirit he says…not the flesh.
    Why?

Why take up the spiritual in place of what the world says is real?
…these bodies, our well-being, our desires and dreams?
Why place worldly wisdom on the back-burner…
    Serving others?

    You see…
If we live by all the earthly appetites and attractions…all those things that are, unhelpful, self-centered & self-serving…
We are bound forever mere mortality.
Little better than animals…far removed from what God intended.

    God wants us…
To have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…

catching sight of heaven, and the kingdom…

It is true…what is inside us is what really matters…what is inside us shows us to who we are…

    Beings of beauty…
Spirits that grow rather than wither.

    We are called to freedom…
not to be slaves of sin.

    ~Amen~
