    Where peace resides...there is righteousness

    Preacher: David Macdonald

    Category: Faith

“Mercy & truth have met together…righteousness and peace, have kissed each other.”

After celebrating the 4th of July…there is something I want us to consider very carefully as Christians.

Something that King David knew… “where truth resides…there is mercy. Where peace resides…there is righteousness”.

We live in a country that is richly blessed…financially resilient…possessed of the strongest military might in the history of the world…

A nation whose currency still says…’In God We Trust’

And until recently…a political system admired by the world as possessing two of the virtues most sought after…in a government…

Restraint of power…&…the ascendancy of the moral choice…over political expedience.

These the two foundations of the Constitution & the Bill of Rights…that were the center of our political decision making…financial dealings…and our ethical decision making…

    In the days to come…
Our nation needs to remember that where there is truth
    There is mercy…
    Where there is peace
    There is righteousness.

if we are going to live as Christians…as children of God…we cannot change the virtues to read…
‘where there is truth…there is the flag’
    &
‘where there is peace…there is the gun’

The flag…&…the gun…cannot save or redeem in the end…

    Only God can do that…
    Only redemption can…
    Only repentance can…
Only if we follow the Lord’s will…can we ever hope for the things the psalmist speaks of…
Will find their way into our lives…because they become part of our hearts, souls & minds…

    Yeah our spirits.

What I suggest is that we ask ourselves…without seeking blame…
Or damning anyone for lack of foresight…
How we got to where we find ourselves in the world today?

What part did we play in taking our nation, friends and allies into such peril and instability?

    If we ask these questions…
We open an opportunity to listen to what God wants for us and his children everywhere…
    Then perhaps…
The Spirit of God may be able to bring us back to a vantage point of sanity…where mercy and righteousness resides.

     As a people…as Christians…
and as citizens of a country we deeply love...to stand for what is virtuous and right.

Let urge us urge our elected leaders to seek mercy and righteousness…

Placing our nation’s hope in God…

Rather than the most expedient response based on power or the latest fear of the moment.
I say these things to you...in the name of God: Father, Son & Holy Spirit
