Job Description

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, a vibrant, open and growing parish in an 1892 National Landmark building in the heart of historic Sea Cliff on the North Shore of Long Island, seeks a Music Director/Organist to work with our energetic, community focused Rector in building the loyal amateur choir and music program.    We seek a personable musician with strong organ and choral leadership skills, abundant energy, and a good sense of humor.

The recently expanded 2/24 organ, 3 pianos and a spacious choir room provide the nucleus for the program.  The church is a warm, inviting worship space for this welcoming, inclusive congregation deeply appreciative of its music program and the focus on the weekly Rite II Eucharistic Service.

This is a ¼ time position with one Sunday service and one weekly choir rehearsal as well as traditional seasonal services for Holy Week and Advent. The salary range is $17-21,000  per year. Weddings and Funerals are paid separately. 4 weeks vacation is arranged with the Rector.  The church will pay for membership in AGO and AAM and strongly encourages the MD/O to be active in each.

Job Description

Know Episcopal Church musical and liturgical traditions

Direct Volunteer Choir enhancing familiar material and teaching new repertoire

Work to attract more musicians from the church and community

Work with Rector to select service music, hymns, and liturgical settings

Organize and maintain the music collection

Play varied, appropriate Liturgical repertoire including Preludes, Offertories, Postludes that changes weekly for services

Accompany and lead from the console music for congregation, choir, soloists
