Job Description

St. Luke's Episcopal Church, a landmarked church in the heart of Sea Cliff on Long Island Sound, seeks an Organist/Music Director. We are looking for a well trained, personable musician with strong organ and choral leadership skills, abundant energy and a good sense of humor.

The Organist and Music Director will lead the volunteer choir enhancing familiar material and teaching new repertoire; have knowledge of Anglican music, traditions and resources; have energy, imagination and will work to attract more singers and instrumentalists from the church and the local artistic community. They will work with the Rector on hymn selections and the liturgical settings, select new choir material and maintain the music collection. 

The Organist and Music Director will be a trained organist, comfortable with the Episcopal Church's liturgical traditions and be able to direct the choir, hymns, and service music from the console; have a varied and appropriate liturgical repertoire for preludes, postludes, and offertories that change each week; as well as a means to access soloists, instrumentalists, and substitute organists. 

The church has three pianos and a 2/24 organ being expanded tonally and with a new console; this project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022.

The 1/4 time position includes one Sunday service and additional services during Holy Week and Advent. From September through June the choir rehearses weekly and before the Sunday service. The salary range is $17 - 21,000 annually with weddings and funerals paid separately. Four weeks of vacation will be arranged with the Rector. The church will pay for membership in AGO and AAM and expects the Organist/Music Director to be active in those professional organizations.
