Everyone at St. Luke’s hopes and prays for a priest who will serve as a nurturing pastoral leader for our church family and our surrounding communities.
Rector Search Committee Updates
We continue to push forward with our search for the next rector of St. Luke’s. Kristine Janusas, serving as our search committee to vestry liaison, continues to update and involve the vestry in our search activities. Canon Claire Woodley, our diocesan search liaison, has encouraged us to update and expand St. Luke's website to inform and attract candidates for our open clergy position.
In response to the Canon’s guidance, our vestry has engaged a consultant to update our website and we look forward embedding our search committee generated parish profile, recent parish survey results, financial information and church community news on our new and improved website as part of our search activities. Canon Woodley has also commented on and made suggestions for improving the first draft of our updated Parish Profile. I have incorporated the Canon’s suggestions into our Parish Profile and submitted an updated draft to Father Colwell, Kristine and our search committee for review, suggestions and approval. We hope to submit this next draft of the Parish Profile to the Canon the first week of June.
As mentioned, we have also completed a parish survey as part of our search activities. Many thanks to the 60 parishioners who took the time to complete our check-box survey and offer extensive written advice to guide our search. We will share the survey results on our soon-to-be launched new website.
In the meantime, here are a couple of quotes from the narrative section of the survey offered by several parishioners. Our search committee will be meeting on Sunday June 17th at 10:00 am—immediately following the 9:00 am St. Luke's Summer Service. Father Colwell and I will be updating the larger committee on our activities and sharing suggestions we have received from the diocese during this upcoming meeting.
As always, thank you all for your support as Father Colwell, our vestry and our search committee continue to move through this important process.
Our Vestry has been fully engaged in preparing for the search for our next Rector. Kristine Janusas has graciously offered to serve as the liaison between the Vestry and the Search Committee. We have assembled a diverse and committed group of St. Luke’s parishioners to serve on our committee charged with leading the search for our next Rector.
Please feel free to reach out to our search committee members to thank them for their service and to let them know your hopes and interest in the skills and personal qualities you want us to look for in our next rector.
To date, the Vestry and I have met with the Canon Claire Woodley to gain her guidance on the search process and clarify the ways in which our Vestry, Search Committee and the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island will work together to recruit and secure the next Rector for St. Luke’s.
In addition, we are blessed to have our Interim Rector, the Reverend Dr. Charles Colwell, fully engaged with us all in the search process. We have developed a new Parish Profile, collected our annual Calendar of Events and the two most recent financial audits to share with the Diocese.
Most importantly, we initiated a parish survey on Easter Sunday and will close out submissions of the survey on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Once all the survey responses are submitted all of our parish information will be submitted to the Diocese and we will start receiving names of candidates for the next Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. We are committed to keeping the entire Parish informed and involved in our search process.
Thank you all for your patience, support and input as we move through this important process.
